Swiss National Park
The forerunner of all the Alpine national parks
Insofar as nature protection is concerned within Europe, the Swiss National Park has been an absolute pioneer. Founded in 1914, it was the first national park in the Alps and has the highest classification as a wilderness area. Within the Park, alongside animals and plants, all natural processes are strictly protected. The 80km-long network of trails enables visitors to experience this fascinating landscape and its dynamic processes at close quarters. Since 2010, the Swiss National Park and the neighbouring Val Müstair Biosphere jointly form the UNESCO-Val Müstair Parc Naziunal Biosphere reserve.
